Gigi barked at me the whole time I was painting this one. I think it was the sponge curlers that had her worried!

Gigi barked at me a lot when I painted this one also! Doesn't really look like a Maltese.

My Guardian Angel

My Guardian Angel
Each color and shape in this angel represents a struggle or joy I have faced in my life. I am deaf in my left ear so the angel only has a right ear. I've had double mastectomies so she has no breasts. She also has the kiss of the Holy Spirit (the dove) and you cannot see it in the photo but He kisses her with His blood and has a white cross in His heart. At that point, He surrounds her mouth with the color purple (the color of royalty) and makes her valuable. There is an upside down purple heart with a golden center behind her waist on the right wing pushing down the darkness at her back. This represents the courage (valor) she has always had to face dark times which she derives from her given name meaning "strong" in Latin. There are many other things some of which represent her love of music, color, art, physical fitness, sports, creative thought, the belt of truth, and the Word of God.

Oooh la la!!!

This is hanging in my bedroom, the colors match my room. I have short blonde hair and took a lot of anatomy courses so no model was required! That's all I'm going to say.

6'x9' canvas rug

6'x9' canvas rug
I couldn't get the whole picture to download onto the blog for some reason. I painted this for my mother's kitchen for her Christmas present. It's 6x9. I used 9 different colors of paint to design the travertine stone in the middle. All the fruit detail took a long time to paint in this one. This is a beautiful rug which can be made much smaller with less detail. They are very durable as they are coated with 4 coats of polyurethane. I used high gloss on this one.

For Barbaro, My 1st Kentucky Derby

For Barbaro, My 1st Kentucky Derby
Barbaro won the 1st Kentucky Derby I ever attended and was the inspiration for this painting. The colors represent the beauty and excitement of horse racing. However they also represent the horror and danger that we so often forget are associated with horse racing. This beautiful creature lost his life because of our desires to get all dressed up and watch horses race. Then there was a filly that had to be euthanized on the track last year. Fortunately, I did not see that. My Derby experience was fun and exciting. I saw Barbaro in his stall 2 days before the race and have personal photos of him and his trainer. However, after his death, I'll never enjoy horse racing like I did before.

We lost our little Gigi

Im so sorry to post that our little Gigi lost her battle to cancer on January 15, 2015.  She died peacefully in my arms at the veterinarians office.  It was one of the hardest things Louis and I have ever had to do but it was time. Unfortunately, we lost my father the next month on February 13, after a long illness. On the up side, my daughter Katie, got married to a wonderful young man Jason Brackett in August at the beach and we happily welcome him to our family. Other good news is that my Lou Lou and I have decided to finally get married after 10 years together! Louis and I have just started our search for another Maltese and look forward to finding and welcoming her!  So expect more pix to come in the future!
